Three months of strained bowel movements is a definite sign that one is suffering from constipation. This condition is often not taken seriously, however there may a grave reason behind it. The average person moves his bowel at least once a day while sufferers range from once every 3 days to only once a week.

How do I know I am constipated?

If your stools are hard and dry and you have to strain to expel, then you are constipated. Other signs include sluggishness and bloat as well as long intervals between your bowel movements from a few days to a week.

What causes constipation?

There are both simple and serious reasons for constipation. A stressful situation may sometimes lead to a temporary constipated condition, however a serious disorder such as colon cancer and irritable bowel syndrome may be behind the problem.

Chronic constipation can be remedied by eating a fiber rich diet and supplementing it with natural medication. If however this natural procedure fails to solve the problem, it is important to consult with a doctor. Your constipation may be a sign of something more serious.
