A Guide To Healthy Foods

By Keith Woolley

There is an old African saying that goes food is food. It may not make any sense when read as is, but when the emphasis is placed on the fact that we not only eat for the fun of it, but for the sake of our health and survival, it makes perfect sense. Food is for our natural health. We eat to live. But what exactly do we put in our plates to qualify as food? Is it all considered healthy? For example, I love junk food. Does it count? Provided you space it out, my gorgeous doctor says. Eat lots of fruits too. Then she goes on to say the Apple a day proverb that she always tells. What is there to know about proper eating habits? Heres how:

Fruits - Rations of at least any two kinds of fruit are highly advised in every meal. And yes, the good doc is right; apples contain vitamin C which is vital in helping the body absorb iron fiber and other minerals into the body system.

Vegetables - You may be well aware of the strength possessed by Popeye the sailor every time he pops open a can of spinach and eats it. Spinach contains an entire combination of Vitamins A, B6 and C, riboflavin, calcium, magnesium and iron. Though it doesn't give you muscle, you can be assured of healthy skin, bones and hair.

Grains - Rice is probably the most consumed grain in the world. And don't say you don't love it. The nutritionists pyramid, along with other grains like and wheat and oats that we don't eat whole puts it at the base. Sadly we only have them in our pasta cereal and flour and never as wholesome as we should. These tasty and affordable foods can be incorporated into just any kind of meal and come out just fine. Grains are highly nutritious according to nutritionists and should be had in a wholesome diet.

Meats and Nuts - Who can resist meat, white or red irrespective of their age? Though white meat is regarded as being more expensive, it contains a milder serving of protein, glycogen and myoglobin. Is most common sources are seafood and poultry and for those with adventurous appetites, reptiles. Beef, mutton, veal, are classified as red meat and the lustful eater can enjoy game meat such as gazelle and zebra meat. Nuts such as macadamia nuts, peanuts, cashew nuts and almonds are considered to be a great source of energy and roughage. They are totally irresistible and can be eaten as snacks anytime.o, the next time you eat, make sure that you are no just eating food, but have these four classes into consideration.
